About OPTUNE®

OPTUNE® delivers alternating electric fields without increasing chemotherapy-related side effects. Electric fields are tuned to specific frequencies that disrupt cells’ ability to multiply.1

OPTUNE® requires no regular maintenance. It should be used for as many hours as possible per day, and can be carried around with you in a bag for use in your daily life.1

OPTUNE® is a prescription medical device approved in US and Europe. Please contact your physician for more information.1-2

About OPTUNE®

OPTUNE® is the alternating electric fields delivery system1

About OPTUNE®

OPTUNE® is the alternating electric fields delivery system1

What is OPTUNE®?

OPTUNE® generates low-intensity, intermediate frequency, alternating electric fields. These electric fields are delivered to the brain through transducer arrays that are placed on the scalp.3,4

OPTUNE® is comprised of two main components, an electric field generator, and transducer arrays.3

The OPTUNE® system

OPTUNE® does not need regular maintenance or have any settings for you to change.
You should use OPTUNE® for as many hours per day as possible, and only take short breaks for personal needs.3

How does OPTUNE® work?

The electric fields generated by OPTUNE® are tuned to a particular frequency, specific to the cell type being treated. With OPTUNE®, electric fields are generated at 200kHz.3

The electric fields will interfere with the way a cell divides, thereby slowing or stopping cell division and leading to death of the cell.3

They have not been shown to have an effect on cells that are not undergoing division. Most normal brain cells divide and multiply very slowly, and they are hypothesized to be little affected by OPTUNE®.3

Instructions For Use

  • Starting treatment

You should start treatment at your doctor’s clinic. Your doctor and device support specialist from Zai Lab will teach you how to use the device, replace transducer arrays, recharge and replace batteries, and plug in the device.4

  • Using transducer arrays

4 transducer arrays should be used at one time – 2 with a white connection end, and 2 with black connection ends. This must be done every time you change your arrays.4

    • Black arrays are placed on the front and back of your head
    • White arrays are placed on the sides of your head

  • Using transducer arrays

Hair growth will prevent good contact between the transducer arrays and your scalp, so your scalp should be shaved each time before you apply a new set of transducer arrays.4

  • Using transducer arrays

The transducer arrays are for single use. Used transducer arrays can be disposed in your household trash. Change transducer arrays at least 2 times per week – every 4 days at most.4

  • Connecting the transducer arrays to the device

Connect each of the 4 transducer array connectors with black and white connection ends to the matching sockets on the connection cable. Press firmly to be sure the connectors are in all the way.4

  • Connecting and disconnecting the portable battery

4 rechargeable batteries are included with the OPTUNE GIO Treatment Kit. The batteries slide into the device and should be inserted until you hear a ‘click’ indicating the battery is in place.4

  • Connecting and disconnecting the portable battery

    • When connecting, gently press down to lock the battery in place. Make sure the battery latch is fully engaged.4
    • When disconnecting, press both blue buttons on the side of the battery and lift up, then remove the battery from the slot.4

  • OPTUNE GIO uses 1 battery at a time, and each battery lasts 2-3 hours

Replace the battery each time it runs out, and if you plan to be away from home for more than 2 hours, carry extra batteries or a power supply.4

More information can be found in the OPTUNE GIO User Manual.

  • Using and carrying OPTUNE GIO

You should keep OPTUNE GIO on as much as possible, when awake and when sleeping.4

Both the electric field generator and the battery fit in a carrying bag.4

Do not place the device in a different bag, as OPTUNE GIO has a fan on the inside that needs air flow.4
